Bongiwe Mlangeni is the executive director of the Social Justice Initiative (SJI), a non-profit established in 2013 to mobilise resources for organisations that advance human rights and social justice in South Africa.
SJI, mainly focuses on partnering with high net-worth individuals and through local and international philanthropy has supported over 80 civil society organisations in SA. Previously, Bongi worked as director of communication for the Graҫa Machel Trust and as deputy director for Corruption Watch. She began her career as a journalist. She is a fellow of the Africa Leadership Initiative (ALI) and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN). She is on the board of the Learning Trust and a member of the advisory board of the Centre on African Philanthropy and Social Investment (CAPSI) at the Wits Business School.
