Installation ceremony: UCT’s 11th VC Professor Mosa Moshabela

The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) 11th Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mosa Moshabela took office in August 2024.
While Professor Moshabela has settled into the role in a relatively short period of time, with some of the results of his vision already being tangible across campus, part of the formal process of welcoming him to the university includes the customary installation ceremony.
I am therefore pleased to announce that the university will host this ceremony on Monday, 25 November 2024 at 10:00 at the Sarah Baartman Hall. The ceremony will be co-hosted by UCT Chancellor, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, and will be attended by invited guests, dignitaries from higher education and beyond, and invited members of the UCT community.
We would naturally have wished to mark this celebratory moment with as many as possible in the UCT community. However, capacity constraints dictated that only specific groups could be invited for in-person attendance. For the rest of the UCT community wishing to witness this significant occasion, the ceremony will be live-streamed on the UCT website and social media platforms. Further details in this regard will be shared via other relevant university communication platforms.
Following his announcement as VC in May 2024 after a thorough and consultative six-month recruitment and selection process, and then him taking up the role in August 2024; the installation ceremony this month marks another significant milestone as we continue to warmly welcome Professor Moshabela to UCT.
Professor Moshabela, who prior to his appointment served as the deputy vice-chancellor for research and innovation at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, has brought a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to UCT.
We eagerly anticipate this opportunity to formally and officially welcome our 11th Vice-Chancellor, Professor Moshabela, to the university, and we continue excitedly looking forward to his leadership and the bright future ahead for UCT.

11th UCT Vice-Chancellor’s Installation Ceremony
The University of Cape Town (UCT) Council announced Professor Mosa Moshabela as the 11th vice-chancellor (VC) in May 2024. Professor Moshabela, who took office in August, will be officially installed on 25 November 2024.

On 24 May 2024, Norman Arendse (SC), the Chair of Council at UCT, was proud to formally announce that Professor Mosa Moshabela accepted an offer to become the university’s 11th vice-chancellor. This concluded a thorough and consultative six-month recruitment and selection process. He formally took up the UCT vice-chancellor position in August 2024.
