Third time lucky
17 April 2025 | Words Kamva Somdyala. Photos Lerato Maduna.The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Ikey Tigers overcame an 11-year Varsity Cup trophy drought when they beat their Cape rivals, Maties 44–21 in Stellenbosch on Monday, 14 April in the Varsity Cup final.
The team ran in four tries in a dominant display to clinch a title that has evaded them for two finals in a row. For a second year running, winger Ntokozo Makhaza was named the player of the tournament, while he also took home the backline player that rocks.
