On 13 February 2025, the University of Cape Town (UCT) hosted its annual DSA Welcome Festival at the Green Mile, drawing thousands of new and returning students. Organised by the Department of Student Affairs (DSA), the festival showcased over 100 student societies and 34 sports clubs, offering opportunities ranging from cultural and faith-based groups, to academic societies and competitive sports teams.
Vhugala Nthakheni, Manager for Student Life & Governance, highlighted the significance of student engagement beyond academics. For many first-years, the festival served as a gateway to campus life, fostering new friendships and connections. The vibrant atmosphere was further energised by live performances, interactive showcases, and a headline act by renowned artist Robot Boii, making it a memorable introduction to UCT’s dynamic student community.
