Dear colleagues
I hope you and your loved ones are well. Term 2 has concluded at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and most faculties are dealing with examinations. It is too soon to provide an assessment of how we have done, but we will provide a report on the implementation of emergency remote teaching (ERT) during Term 2 as soon as possible.
In preparation for Term 3, it is important to know how staff and students experienced ERT. So we will be conducting two surveys to get this important feedback.
The first will be a survey on students’ experience with ERT. This survey is not a course evaluation and will not be used in any way to evaluate the performance of academics within the ad hom process. Rather, the data we gather will help the Teaching Online Task Team (TOTT) to identify what worked well, what did not and what needs to be changed or improved. This survey is being designed in consultation with the faculties. It does not replace any specific forms of feedback that course convenors have designed.
The second survey will go to academic staff, to find out how you fared through the preparation of materials and the delivery of teaching online, and to assess possible improvements so we can support you better in the next term.
I continue to see examples of exceptional teaching and a deep commitment to our students and UCT across all faculties. Thank you so much for the way you are responding to the crisis.

The information contained in these videos is authenticated and endorsed by the team of experts based in the Department of Medicine. Many of the recommendations are based on current best evidence and are aligned to provincial, national and international guidelines.
