The University of Cape Town (UCT), in collaboration with Harvard’s Health Systems Innovation Lab (HSIL), the UCT Surgical Society, and Global Surgery, is set to host a groundbreaking hackathon aimed at developing AI-driven solutions to improve healthcare systems worldwide.
The event is over two days, on 11 and 12 April at the Neuroscience Institute. The goal of this high-profile event is to bring together medical students, engineers, programmers, designers, and business professionals for two days of intensive innovation. With participation open to individuals from all disciplines, it seeks to harness the power of interdisciplinary problem-solving to address some of the most pressing challenges in global surgery and healthcare access.
UCT’s vice-chancellor, Professor Mosa Moshabela, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address on the second day.
The event will begin with addresses from international experts, followed by team formation and project development. On the second day, teams will present their solutions to a local judging panel, with the winning team advancing to a global competition where they will showcase their innovation to a Harvard-led international panel.
