Honouring her roots: A cultural tapestry of family and identity

In a powerful display of cultural pride and personal history, Sinazo Mona stands adorned in umbhaco, a traditional Xhosa attire layered with meaning and memories. Surrounded by her father and her big cousin sister, she honours a lineage rich in diversity – isiSwati, SeTswana, German, and isiXhosa. Every layer of her outfit pays homage to her late mother.

As Mona describes the intricate details of her dress, it becomes clear that this is more than just a garment; it’s a symbol of resilience, identity, and the complexities of family. Her ensemble tells a story of a young woman’s path, woven together by the cultures and legacies that have shaped her.
