In a remarkable showcase of academic achievement, the University of Cape Town’s latest PhD graduates are breaking new ground with research that addresses some of the most pressing challenges of our time.

Dr Sophia Sanan’s thesis explores how institutions have navigated significant shifts from colonial and apartheid contexts to becoming relevant in today’s African cities; and speculates on their future roles in society.

Dr Ichebadu Amadi from the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment is setting a new standard for sustainable construction. His thesis focuses on enhancing the properties of fire- recycled aggregates for structural concrete applications, presenting a groundbreaking approach to making concrete more resilient and environmentally friendly.
