The South African College of Music’s (SACM) Opera UCT staged the world-première of Gaetano Donizetti’s Dalinda, an opera written nearly 200 years ago but never performed until now. Set during the Third Crusade, this personal and political drama revolves around Dalinda, a mother, wife, and daughter caught between two worlds.
The opera’s return was a momentous event for Opera UCT and the global opera scene. Hosted at the Baxter Theatre from 4 to 8 September 2024, it showcased the incredible talent nurtured at SACM, highlighting the University of Cape Town’s ability to produce world-class performers ready to enrich the world with their voices.
